Emojis, GIFs and Fonts

If your child loves drawing and painting and would like to pick up some digital skills – but you would like them to get a little programming experience as well – then this is the course for you.

During this session, students will learn how to create their own emojis, GIFs and fonts using digital art applications – and will learn a little code in order to be able to use their finished artworks on their computers and smartphones. We will teach them how to use a variety of software applications including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as free graphic software applications such as Pixlr, to make their creations. We will discuss how to create custom avatars, wallpapers, and skins for YouTube channels and other social media platforms. Students will also learn how to upload their emojis and gifs to a custom iOS app so they can share them with friends and family. Students will also learn how to turn their hand-drawn letterforms into digital fonts to use on their computers in any program such as MS Word, Pages, and TextEdit.

Students who have had a little more programming experience or who feel up to the challenge can also learn how to use JavaScript to create data visualizations, with cool projects such as coding their own interactive periodic table of elements, an animated visual network of all their friends, and more.
